My turning point

Everyone has their own beliefs about how to live life, strive for happiness and attain good health, I`m no exception. I would have to say that for the majority of my life, I believed I was pretty healthy. I`ve always been a happy, active person with very few health problems and considered my eating habits relatively healthy. Does this sound like you?

And yet, when I looked back on my life, I acknowledged that I had always suffered with Dermatitis and Allergies and I would always bloat and- ahem, have a lot of gas (sorry), after meals. In my 20`s I pushed the boundaries as do many, with smoking, alcohol and a fast and furious life. I`d always had crappy skin, with blind pimples from time to time, and as I aged, I slowly put on weight - not a lot, but slowly and surely, one kilo a year. You might think that by age 50 this acceptable, but I didn`t like what I saw in the mirror, and wearing clothes that hid the offending areas wasn`t fooling anyone. I don`t want to paint a poor picture of myself - I was just tipping the scales at 63 kilos, and people would comment and say `You don`t need to lose weight`. No, my journey has not been about weight at all - that`s just been a beneficial side effect of making healthier changes to my lifestyle.

People hate change. Most are scared to give up things they consider make them happy - like fast foods, sugar and soft drinks. But just like giving up smoking - which I did 30 years ago! you have to make the decision to change forever if you want better health. And most life changing decisions stem from a crucial health issue, which is a shame that we all wait till we are sick, before we look at why we`re sick.

For me it was a year of hellish skin rashes, that covered my body and consumed my every waking -and trying to sleep, moment. It was like living with hot burning itchy skin all over my body - which I might add, looked a mess, and was pretty unappealing to my husband, poor guy! It didn`t help that my daughter had slowly but surely insinuated two cats into our already animal filled life. The only problem is I`M ALLERGIC TO CATS! It was decided to re-home them, thank goodness, which made a big improvement to my over-wrought immune system. But I still suffered from horribly itchy hands and arms which impacted on my life non stop and I was fed up with doctors and skin specialists that just prescribed more cortisone creams which have left my hands looking a hundred years old.

I started researching natural remedies, and had a mineral analysis done to determine what minerals my body was depleted in. Zinc was not being absorbed at all and I was critically low in magnesium, selenium and B-12 and Vit, C. The question is why? And that is where my journey began and the missing link - a Leaky Gut, which you can read in my post -` Leaky Gut - Fad or Fiction`

So what changes have I made so far? The first and most substantial was eliminating Aspartamates from my diet then finding the right Naturopath to guide me. Giving up refined sugars was the next big change. Then it was Gluten and grains. Every article I read on allergies said give them up - so I did. I changed milk to only A2
I have always had a large organic veggie patch, but I still needed to buy what I didnt grow, so I strive to buy organic if at all possible - you have no idea how many chemicals and pesticides are on your F&Veg. I only eat Grass fed meat now . Feed grains are all GMO`d, so if cows are eating it, so are you. I take Enzymes, Probiotics, Coconut everything, and so much more, which I will share with you in my posts. I am now determined to find excellent health.

This shift in what I eat has also given me a new desire to find healthy recipes and cook with alternative ingredients and challenge the belief that I am missing out on all the good things. I am definitely not! I can have a healthy Creme Brule or Banana bread and so much more as there are loads of healthy options out there.

Iv`e only been on this journey for 11 months, and Iv`e slowly lost 9 kilos and feeling so much healthier. Im still working on the gut so follow my posts to see how I`m going. I have joined the ranks of Bone Broth makers and the cupboards are now stocked with and learn why you should probably make some changes too.

Happy healthy eating folks....... Roz
